The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sent a document to the Thai Embassy in Ha Noi on Friday to temporarily suspend the import of live pigs for slaughter from Thailand into Viet Nam from June 30.
Efficient reproduction of pigs and enhancing imports of frozen pork and live pigs have made prices of live hogs fall, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
The first batch of 500 live pigs from Thailand arrived at Lao Bao border gate in Quang Tri province on June 17, after a decline in hog prices in Viet Nam.
